CUBAN NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION

First Newsletter Published April 2004

by Frank Putrow

The Cuban Numismatic Association was founded by a group of collectors/enthusiasts on January 9, 2004, during the FUN Coin Show in Orlando, Florida. Twenty two members constituted the initial Charter membership, which now has reached 65. The elected officers are: President: Frank Putrow, Vice President - Andres Rodriquez, Secretary - Marysol Cayado, Treasurer - Robert Freeman. The Board of Directors will be Richard Becker, Larry Casey, Enrique Cayado, Stan Klein and Emilio Ortiz. Initially, an annual meeting will be held each year in conjunction with the FUN Coin Show, which will be held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 2005. As the Association membership increases, meetings may be held in other parts of the country.

The Associations charter includes all Cuban coins, currency, bonds, medals, tokens, casino chips, and other items of private issue.

The Cuban Numismatic Association is the first in the United States. At this time, it will not be affiliated with the Numismatic Association of Cuba, which reportedly exists in Havana, Cuba. However, in the future, the two organizations may join endeavor to generate interest in Cuban Numismatics throughout the world.

Many of the Association members reside in distant states, and come from very varying backgrounds. A few are considered to be collectors of the finest Cuban Numismatic material in existence. The Association offers the opportunity for beginner and novice Cuban collectors to have access to these resources. The Association plans to have a quarterly newsletter for the membership, and a future website for communications and information,. Tutorials and reference material will be provided, as well as limited advertisement opportunities.

The annual dues are $10 for Regular membership and $5.00 for Junior (under 18) membership. Charter membership status will be granted to all members who join before March 9, 2004.
