NEW 50 AND 20 PESOS BANKNOTES

WILL BE PUT INTO CIRCULATION (1999)

New 50 and 20 pesos bank notes will be put into circulation soon. The bills are the same size as those currently in circulation and will keep the images of Major General Calixto Garcia Iniguez on the 50 pesos note and Commandante Camilo Cienfuegos on the 20 pesos note.

As principal security elements, both will have a watermark on the left with the effigy of the heroine Celia Sanchez Manduley and will have an integrated microprinted security thread running from the upper to the lower border and the signature of the President of the Central Bank of Cuba at the bottom.

In the center of the bill is the denomination in letters superimposed on the numerals 50 or 20, respectively.

Among the details of identification on the front; the primary colors, violet for the 50 and blue for the 20 and the seal of the Central Bank of Cuba, which authenticates it.

The back of the 50 pesos has an illustration of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnical Center and on the 20 an illustration of Agricultural Development.

The public and businesses should understand that the currently circulating 20 and 50 pesos notes will continue to be legal tender and will circulate along with the new bills until the supply is exhausted.
