THE 1923 OVERPRINT $2 1/2

This is a $2.50 banknote from the Medellin Mint. Some of these bills were overprinted by the Banco de la Republica as provisional banknotes.

El Banco de la Republica, in accordance with the Emission Act No. 1 of July 21, 1923, authorized the restamping of 700,000 $2.50 banknotes for a total value of $1,750,000. Later, in 1924, 283 were overstamped for a total of 983,000 $2.50 banknotes.

In spite of it being a relatively large issue, this banknote is relatively scarce for collectors, especially in a good, preserved state. Recently in Santa Fe de Bogota the illustrated specimen was sold. Congratulations to its new owner for such a good acquisition.
